Grateful

Originals For Sale

$1900
I have always tried to be grateful to be surrounded by such spectacular beauty so close to home, but recently I learnt that lower socioeconomic areas are likely to have less green spaces available to them. In my ignorance I hadn’t realised it was also a sign of privilege.
How often do we take for granted the beauty that surrounds us? How do we make these spaces more common, available and accessible for everyone?
This painting is based on a section between Galston gorge and Crosslands along the great north walk. It is such a beautiful bushwalk!
Let us not take this privilege for granted and be grateful.

The lockdowns caused by COVID caused so many problems, but also gave us many gifts. One of the gifts it gave us was time. Suddenly we had time; time to spend with family, time to explore our local area in a way we haven’t before. What a gift.
I will remember this spot well, not only for the beauty and the peace, but also for the joy it brought us. My sons are adventurous and love to scramble and climb over all the rocks, no matter how slippery…well you can guess what happened this one time. A very soggy boy for the last hour of the hike, but what a place to fall in.

Benowie Track

Sold

When can we go again?
That’s what my youngest kept asking about this beautiful walk on the Benowie Track. He loved climbing over all the undulating rocks, and we loved the beautiful fresh clear water.

I was fascinated by this tree, with its rock entwined roots, that was thriving despite its circumstances. With the assistance of the life-giving water, it had made the best of its situation, adapted and thrived.

Lyrebird Gully

Sold

There have been some benefits to lockdown; one of them being more time to spend with the family on mini adventures.
This adventure was on the Benowie track, which is a part of the great north walk.
Let’s just say it was more of an adventure than we bargained for, but over the four hours we took walking, exploring and wandering, we were so often caught up in the specular beauty of the place. We were all drawn to the mossy rocks and the water of Lyrebird gully, where the kids took off our shoes and enjoyed the freezing water. I loved sitting there watching the kids, feeling still, when so often life is not.
What a privilege, amongst the difficulties, to have this time to share with family.

Different is Interesting Limited Edition Print

Limited Edition Print

Print on paper

Signed and numbered on the front.

When I painted this I was desperate for stress relief and to throw some paint on a canvas.
As I was doing this, I was thinking about my boys and the obstacles they faced in life. They both have things that make them different than others and at times this has made life difficult for them.
This painting evolved into a statement to them: that what makes them different also makes them interesting. This painting is all the better for that one flower that sticks out.
Hopefully, when people see this artwork and they also realise that what makes us different makes us and life all the more interesting.

A Fresh Start

Sold

This is part of a beautiful local bush walk, behind a major Sydney hospital. You would never know such beauty exists, so hidden and so gorgeous behind a car park. It is also a local hang out for a variety of owl species.
I find it endlessly inspiring, due to its lushness and the juxtaposition of it being so close to the highway. It is interesting how this oasis can be found so close and so many are unaware of it.
