He Restores My Soul

Originals For Sale

$1890

On The Great North Walk, there is this amazing spot where you come out of this dense, dark tree covered area and you step into the light.
As I battled through my overthinking this past week, this painting took me through the journey also. It really felt like I was in the darkness and I needed to see the hope and light on the other side.
Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing . He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters, he restores my soul.

Mornings in Galston

Originals For Sale

$7500

Each morning, we drive past a flock of birds feeding on someone’s generosity. It is always a variety of birds coming together to feed, and the sight always fills me with pleasure and such a reminder of God’s gifts to us.
It is such a joy, watching as the sun comes up over the fields and trees. A pretty great start to the day!
This painting was painted first on individual canvases, then sewn together to represent the various days, times and variations in weather and sky, but the birds unite them all.
How many birds can you find?

190 x 140cm (it’s a big one)
Mixed media on multiple canvases sewn together

Australian gum trees intrigue me. I love their wacky shapes, angles and colours. I love that they each have their own unique story of the lives they have lived, battered by storms and fires, but uplifted by sunshine, each with its own battle wounds and scars. I find it intriguing that we love the differences in trees but so often dismiss and fear differences in people. Our beautiful Australian landscape is enhanced by the beauty of our unique and wacky trees. Let’s learn from the trees.

My Maggie’s

SOLD
I love magpies! We have a family that regularly visits our garden. Most days I will see them foraging for worms. Their song is one of the most beautiful around. Every year they bring their babies back to our garden and it is so funny to see these babies, as big as their parents, squawking in the most unpleasant attention grabbing way, while waiting for their parents to feed them. I love these quirky birds. I love Maggie’s.

Our Scars

Sold

$6500
I have acquired a new scar, it is quite a confronting one and a challenge to me wearing it. It has caused me to reflect on scars and what they mean.

Some scars we may feel embarrassed about, or we may feel disfigured because of them and yet scars are a part of our story, of the journey we have been on and the challenges we have faced; the things we have overcome.

Scars are a sign of healing.

Gum trees wear their scars so well. Their beauty is only enhanced by the damaged caused by a fire, the fallen branch, the wind twisted trunk; they wear their stories so beautifully and boldly.

They teach me there is beauty and strength shown in our scars.

Melancholy

Trees speak to me, teaching me lessons.
This local tree spoke to me of such deep sadness, a loss of hope so severe it has turned in on itself. It no longer could see what it could be, or the beauty that surrounded it.

Listen to the Birds

Commission, Mural, Sold

This is the first mural I have done in 7 years. It was such a privilege to be able to do this. I really value how art can change the experience for paitents. For some people doctors offices can cause tremendous anxiety and I love when doctors care to help. The doctors I did this for, are some of the kindest and most caring you will get.

This one was a labour of love: a gift, to support my hubby and the kids in Learning Support.

School can sometimes be a difficult place for kids, especially the neurodiverse and I will be forever grateful for this school that understands that. They understand that sometimes kids need a safe place to escape to, to have a moment, to breathe, to be able to face the day again. My hope and prayer, is that this painting aids that.

Amongst the painting are all sorts of animals, quotes and of course a Lego figure 🙂

I hope they like it!

This is my happy place.
Thanks to the generosity of some amazing friends, I have found a place to rest.
A place I run to when things get tough.
A place to celebrate.
A place to escape to, in my mind.
A place to ground me.
A place to remind me of truth.
My happy place.

The Family Tree

Sold

I see trees like I see people, having different personalities with different life stories.

This, to me, is our Grandfather tree.
Under this tree all are loved and welcome. It doesn’t care if you are a bird, a person or a red back, brown or pink, immigrant or original, religious or atheist, gender defined or not. This tree welcomes all. Under this tree you can find rest, and shelter.
This tree can be OUR family tree.

This is a mixed media piece, with the background having prints of local leaves and grasses.

The Light in the Darkness

Sold

I used to be really afraid of the dark, even as an adult. I am not sure what scared me so much, but with time I have learnt to appreciate the light in the darkness. We are so lucky to have the stars and the moon, to keep us company and they are so breathtaking. We also have the privilege of street lights!
There are many beautiful gum trees close to me that when illuminated by the street lights seem to offer their own source of comfort and light. Their beauty is highlighted even more in the darkness.
It reminds me to look for the light in the darkness and to hopefully reflect that light also.

The background of this piece has been made impressions from plants, using charcoal and marble powder to press into the painting.

The lockdowns caused by COVID caused so many problems, but also gave us many gifts. One of the gifts it gave us was time. Suddenly we had time; time to spend with out family, time to explore our local area in a way we haven’t before. What a gift.
I will remember this spot well, not only for the beauty and the peace, but also for the joy it brought us. My sons are adventurous and love to scramble and climb over all the rocks, no matter how slippery…well you can guess what happened this one time. A very soggy boy for the last hour of the hike, but what a place to fall in.

When can we go again?
That’s what my youngest kept asking about this beautiful walk on the Benowie Track. He loved climbing over all the undulating rocks and the beautiful fresh clear water (which he sampled). I was absolutely fascinated by this tree that was thriving despite its circumstances and position (a good reminder 🙂).
This walk was much longer than we expected 😫 but one of the most beautiful we have been on.

Lyrebird Gully Limited Edition Print

There have been some benefits to lockdown; one of them being more time to spend with the family on mini adventures.
This adventure was on the Benowie track, which is a part of the great north walk.
Let’s just say it was more of an adventure than we bargained for, but over the four hours we took walking, exploring and wandering, we were so often caught up in the spectacular beauty of the place. We were all drawn to the mossy rocks and the water of Lyrebird gully, where the kids took off our shoes and enjoyed the freezing water. I loved sitting there watching the kids, feeling still, when so often life is not.
What a privilege, amongst the difficulties, to have this time to share with family.

I have always loved Dr Seuss, but only as an adult have I really appreciated the depth and profound nature of his writings.
As I was painting the beautiful wattle, I was reminded of The Lorax, and the beautiful truffler trees (before they were cut down).
How lucky are we to be surrounded by such beauty. It is breathtaking to see the diversity around us; even amongst such an unforgiving environment in Australia.

This crabapple was planted by the council and is so annoying, it completely blocks the path, so often you either have to walk on the road to get past it or you get slapped by it as you wheedle past. But it is so breathtakingly beautiful when it flowers. But it is so breathtakingly beautiful when it flowers. It is funny how sometimes we need these things that may seem cumbersome and in the way to literally stop us in our tracks and appreciate life.So life is pretty tough at the moment, we are all (in NSW) in a metaphorical winter, or even some may be in a dark night of the soul. But as winter passes, so do dark nights of the soul.
These barren times where the trees are naked of life and leaves and maybe you begin to despair; but then slowly tiny buds start to develop, small and hidden. Then more time passes and one courageous bud bursts through to show you life, to show you that ALL seasons change. The winter passes and the dark nights of the soul pass too.

Different is Interesting Limited Edition Print

Limited Edition Print

Print on paper

When I painted this I was desperate for stress relief and to throw some paint on a canvas.
As I was doing this, I was thinking about my boys and the obstacles they faced in life. They both have things that make them different than others and at times this has made life difficult for them.
This painting evolved into a statement to them: that what makes them different also makes them interesting. This painting is all the better for that one flower that sticks out.
Hopefully, when people see this artwork and they also realise that what makes us different makes us and life all the more interesting.
