I recently was shown the most gorgeous place just behind the SAN. The family and I have been there a couple of times now, searching for owls and climbing rocks. It is such a beautiful hidden gem.Tucked away, behind the SAN hospital in Sydney, is the most enchanting hidden owl habitat.
We are so lucky to be surrounded by such beauty in Sydney.
During lockdown my family and I went on a lot of walks, and this is still one of my favourite places.

The Resilience Tree

Commission, Sold

There is local tree in my neighbourhood that some might think is ugly. It has been planted in the wrong spot, under power lines and then been hacked at, time and time again and has grown into the most obscure shapes.
But when I see this tree I am astounded and inspired. I have painted it in my art multiple times because I am fascinated by its beauty, by the shapes it has grown into as it has adapted to the life it has been given.
This tree is amazing, it has lived for over my 40+ years, it continues to thrive despite its circumstances, no matter how many branches have been lopped off, no matter that it is bent sideways, no matter that it is at crossroads, no matter that its roots are bound by the roads and paths; this tree must have deep roots and a firm foundation. It stands strong in all its beauty, ugliness and awkwardness. This is a tree that I look at constantly and admire.
This tree is by far the most interesting tree around.

This is painting is home to 23 local birds and 1 iddy biddy lizard. Try and find them all.

The Resilience Tree was commissioned by and has been enlarged by Hornsby Hospital to fit a wall 4.7 x 2.8m, but this is the original painting.

It is framed in a floating frame.

Flowering Gum

Sold

During this period of isolation there have been some lovely moments. My favourite thing, has been walking with my family. Each day, rain or shine, we have gone walking or cycling and I have loved it (accept the cycling, I am the lady almost falling off regularly).

During these times the kids have discovered the joy in photography, so while we walk we take interesting pictures along the way. It has brought a new observance of my surroundings that I didn’t have before. Right up the road we discovered these beautiful flowering gums. They were so breathtaking in their complexity and beauty. While it is difficult to capture what true beauty the possess it was fun (and time consuming) to try.

The Journey

Commission, Mural, Sold

This painting was such a struggle for me, physically and emotionally and on reflection it is fitting that it was.
This is for a paediatric therapy and learning centre: it is to convey hope.
When people see this they will not see how much pain I was in when I did it. They will not see how I struggled as to how to achieve it, how to get the complexity and depth, how to covey the image that was given to me. They will not see how I struggled with self doubt and how much I wanted it to work out.
Just as when you see the kids who go for these physical therapies. We do not see the struggles they face. We do not see how hard they fight, sometimes daily. How much they have to deal with, each with varying degrees of difficulties and how much harder they have to try.
What you do see is the beauty that has resulted from the struggle. It was worth it.
I hope for the kids who attend their therapies that they can also see hope, hope that the struggle is worth it. That great things can be accomplished with great effort, even when others are unaware of the battle.

Finding Peace

Sold

This painting is of a beautiful little lagoon in Arrawarra, on the midcoast of NSW. It was one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have ever been.
I started painting this on the first day my son went to preschool, sadly the next day I had a major accident and didn’t paint again for a long time. It took me over a year to finish this, possibly up to 100 hours and 4 surgeries later.
I call this painting “Finding Peace” because it was a very difficult year and a very difficult process: a true journey for me of finding peace.
