Our Scars

Sold

$6500
I have acquired a new scar, it is quite a confronting one and a challenge to me wearing it. It has caused me to reflect on scars and what they mean.

Some scars we may feel embarrassed about, or we may feel disfigured because of them and yet scars are a part of our story, of the journey we have been on and the challenges we have faced; the things we have overcome.

Scars are a sign of healing.

Gum trees wear their scars so well. Their beauty is only enhanced by the damaged caused by a fire, the fallen branch, the wind twisted trunk; they wear their stories so beautifully and boldly.

They teach me there is beauty and strength shown in our scars.

This is Life Series: Ease

Sold

SOLD through Hornsby Framing

Sometimes the troubles of this life accumulate on me, overwhelming me and overcoming me and I want a break, I want it to stop, to ease up, for the burdens and the pains to be lifted. But do you know what…this is life. It is easy to look around and think that others have it easier than we do, and sometimes that is true, but sometimes it isn’t, the pains of this life are hidden so often by a facade, that make us believe that it should be easier than it is.

This painting has been about adapting, healing the past, looking toward hope, but seeing joy in the day to day, in the weeds that have abounded in the rain, in the rain itself, in the birds that wake me in the morning. When I stop and listen, moment by moment, I can keep putting one foot in front of another and enjoy the journey.

One Day in Galston

Sold

Australian gum trees intrigue me. I love their wacky shapes, angles and colours. I love that they each have their own unique story of the lives they have lived, battered by storms and fires, but uplifted by sunshine, each with its own battle wounds and scars. I find it intriguing that we love the differences in trees but so often dismiss and fear differences in people. Our beautiful Australian landscape is enhanced by the beauty of our unique and wacky trees. Let’s learn from the trees.

Melancholy

Trees speak to me, teaching me lessons.
This local tree spoke to me of such deep sadness, a loss of hope so severe it has turned in on itself. It no longer could see what it could be, or the beauty that surrounded it.

Some Things Don’t Need to be Fixed

Originals For Sale

$3800

I have heard it said that being a parent, is having your heart living externally to your body.
I don’t know how to parent and I have made a lot of mistakes, but what I do know is that I love my kids more than seems possible.
My kids have their own struggles and it is so hard to know when to step in and step back.
This painting is about my experience as a Mum wanting desperately to fix it, to take the burdens from my kids, to make it better and then hearing a whisper deep in my soul, “some thing’s don’t need to be fixed”.
An ode to neurodivergence.

My Noisy Neighbour

Sold

It is such a privilege to be surrounded by the bush and the birds. In the garden outside my art studio, there are some beautiful grevilleas. The lorikeets absolutely love them and are often our alarm clock in the morning. They don’t exactly have the nicest song, but I still love to hear them everyday.

Listen to the Birds

Commission, Mural, Sold

This is the first mural I have done in 7 years. It was such a privilege to be able to do this. I really value how art can change the experience for paitents. For some people doctors offices can cause tremendous anxiety and I love when doctors care to help. The doctors I did this for, are some of the kindest and most caring you will get.

Look at the Trees

Commission, Sold

This one was a labour of love: a gift, to support my hubby and the kids in Learning Support.

School can sometimes be a difficult place for kids, especially the neurodiverse and I will be forever grateful for this school that understands that. They understand that sometimes kids need a safe place to escape to, to have a moment, to breathe, to be able to face the day again. My hope and prayer, is that this painting aids that.

Amongst the painting are all sorts of animals, quotes and of course a Lego figure 🙂

I hope they like it!

Birds Interrupt Me

Originals For Sale

$1700|

How often do we wish we could do/be something else, to not be authentically ourselves?
It is easy as an artist to look at others and want to be like them. I often look at beautiful, restful, simple, abstract art and wish I could do that. I recently saw some beautiful simplistic art and all I could think of birds flying in, and lego figures vaulting. Truthfully, no matter how much I would sometimes like to, I can’t escape myself.
Welcome to my world, where…birds interrupt me.

Marvellous Magpies

Sold

This is a part of my splatter paint series.
Painting these is pure joy: I literally throw pain on the canvas and then paint what the painting shows me.
This features part of the beautiful magpie family that visits me almost daily. I sit and get work done and watch them. Magpies get such a bad wrap. They have the most beautiful song and are amazingly bonded families. It really is something special to watch.

This is my happy place.
Thanks to the generosity of some amazing friends, I have found a place to rest.
A place I run to when things get tough.
A place to celebrate.
A place to escape to, in my mind.
A place to ground me.
A place to remind me of truth.
My happy place.

Thanks Mr Kookaburra

Sold

For a couple of months tragedy surrounded us, culminating with my Father in law being in ICU.

The depth and weight of all that was happening meant we had to, as a family, find a way through. We went to the beach, and on bush walks, we had dinner out, we found ways to find joy in the small things: I call them microjoys. To see flowers popping up in the garden, birds all around. Seeing beauty in small things, helped us to get through the hardest things.

This beautiful kookaburra was on one of our walks, and it just kindly sat and let me walk up close and take its photo. So thanks Mr Kookaburra for allowing me to preserve a micro joy.

This one is quite different for me, as I literally blobbed and squelched paint over the canvas, like a child. I still don’t quite know how I feel about it, but it allowed freedom and healing to come as I ripped and pasted fabric, drew squiggles and randomly applied paint.

Thursday’s

Sold

We share a car with my brother and sister in law, and each week my sister in law drops it off and we go for our walk. I love exercising alone, but I really love these Thursday mornings with my beautiful sister.

On the way we love a good chat, but I also continue to enjoy the beauty around me, from our neighbourhood poppies, to the spectacular bird life. For the last two weeks we have seen a flock of black cockatoos fly over us. It is a sight and a sound that literally stops us in our tracks. The elusive black cockatoos are such a spectacular sight. What a gift to have these walks.

This too Shall Pass

Sold

I have seen so much pain around me recently. The worst and most tragic aspects of life and it is hard to imagine a way through, at times, for those suffering. It reminds me of a kids book (We’re going on a bear hunt) that says, ” We can’t go over it, we can’t go under it, we must go through it.”
Can we be the hug, the hope, the love, the light for those around us who are suffering. To offer the hidden hope that they cannot currently possess, to be with them in their tragedy, until they can once again stand?
This painting is a response and a reminder that “this too shall pass”. That despite the burdens and pain that we and our friends may carry, that there is hope, in time, that the deepest of pain shall pass.

The Family Tree

I see trees like I see people, having different personalities with different life stories.

This, to me, is our Grandfather tree.
Under this tree all are loved and welcome. It doesn’t care if you are a bird, a person or a red back, brown or pink, immigrant or original, religious or atheist, gender defined or not. This tree welcomes all. Under this tree you can find rest, and shelter.
This tree can be OUR family tree.
