He Restores My Soul

Originals For Sale

$1890

On The Great North Walk, there is this amazing spot where you come out of this dense, dark tree covered area and you step into the light.
As I battled through my overthinking this past week, this painting took me through the journey also. It really felt like I was in the darkness and I needed to see the hope and light on the other side.
Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing . He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters, he restores my soul.

Australian gum trees intrigue me. I love their wacky shapes, angles and colours. I love that they each have their own unique story of the lives they have lived, battered by storms and fires, but uplifted by sunshine, each with its own battle wounds and scars. I find it intriguing that we love the differences in trees but so often dismiss and fear differences in people. Our beautiful Australian landscape is enhanced by the beauty of our unique and wacky trees. Let’s learn from the trees.

Our Scars

Sold

$6500
I have acquired a new scar, it is quite a confronting one and a challenge to me wearing it. It has caused me to reflect on scars and what they mean.

Some scars we may feel embarrassed about, or we may feel disfigured because of them and yet scars are a part of our story, of the journey we have been on and the challenges we have faced; the things we have overcome.

Scars are a sign of healing.

Gum trees wear their scars so well. Their beauty is only enhanced by the damaged caused by a fire, the fallen branch, the wind twisted trunk; they wear their stories so beautifully and boldly.

They teach me there is beauty and strength shown in our scars.

Melancholy

Sold

$1250

Trees speak to me, teaching me lessons.
This local tree spoke to me of such deep sadness, a loss of hope so severe it has turned in on itself. It no longer could see what it could be, or the beauty that surrounded it.

Listen to the Birds

Commission, Mural, Sold

This is the first mural I have done in 7 years. It was such a privilege to be able to do this. I really value how art can change the experience for paitents. For some people doctors offices can cause tremendous anxiety and I love when doctors care to help. The doctors I did this for, are some of the kindest and most caring you will get.

Look at the Trees

This one was a labour of love: a gift, to support my hubby and the kids in Learning Support.

School can sometimes be a difficult place for kids, especially the neurodiverse and I will be forever grateful for this school that understands that. They understand that sometimes kids need a safe place to escape to, to have a moment, to breathe, to be able to face the day again. My hope and prayer, is that this painting aids that.

Amongst the painting are all sorts of animals, quotes and of course a Lego figure 🙂

I hope they like it!

The Family Tree

Sold

I see trees like I see people, having different personalities with different life stories.

This, to me, is our Grandfather tree.
Under this tree all are loved and welcome. It doesn’t care if you are a bird, a person or a red back, brown or pink, immigrant or original, religious or atheist, gender defined or not. This tree welcomes all. Under this tree you can find rest, and shelter.
This tree can be OUR family tree.

This is a mixed media piece, with the background having prints of local leaves and grasses.

The Light in the Darkness

Sold

I used to be really afraid of the dark, even as an adult. I am not sure what scared me so much, but with time I have learnt to appreciate the light in the darkness. We are so lucky to have the stars and the moon, to keep us company and they are so breathtaking. We also have the privilege of street lights!
There are many beautiful gum trees close to me that when illuminated by the street lights seem to offer their own source of comfort and light. Their beauty is highlighted even more in the darkness.
It reminds me to look for the light in the darkness and to hopefully reflect that light also.

The background of this piece has been made impressions from plants, using charcoal and marble powder to press into the painting.
